Here is one hot headline that will get crowds enraged: a new report is out that says Wicca and the popularity of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the reason behind a decline in women attending churches!
More pictures after the jump…
A researcher has been studying many women and writing a book on her findings. Dr. Kristen Aune, via INO says:
“In short, women are abandoning the church. Because of its focus on female empowerment, young women are attracted by Wicca, popularised by the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Young women tend to express egalitarian values and dislike the traditionalism and hierarchies they imagine are integral to the church.”
That puts a lot more weight than necessary on TV shows and their draw, doesn’t it? I mean, who watches TV and says, hey, I’m not going on Sunday because I want to be like Buffy! I think people are just tired of certain churches, their intolerance of other lifestyles and rigid rules. What do you think?

As a Wiccan I’m damn offended. Some people actually think the crap they put on TV has anything to do with the actual Wiccan religion? It’s un-researched pop culture nonsense.
And by the way, there’s plenty of hierarchy in traditional Wicca. That’s why there’s 3 degrees of initiation and ordained clergy (high priest and priestesses).

There right, how dare women look for empowerment. they should just stay with the “traditional” church who in that story sounds just about as possesive as a clingy boyfriend. Any woman there talking about who left the church because of Buffy (if any) make sure the church understands that your over and if they continue, get a restraining order.
