Michael Phelps of the US has won his third gold medal in the Beijing Summer Olympics. Phelps came first in the men’s 200-metre freestyle race yesterday. The American Golden Boy led by a full body length after 100 metres to finish the race setting a new World Record in the men’s 200 m freestyle swimming.

Phelps will go for his fourth and fifth medals of these Games on Wednesday morning Beijing time; Tuesday night in North America.
Phelps won in a time of 1:42.96, a new world record and the first recorded time under 1:43. The previous world record was 1:43.86 and the previous Olympic record was 1:44.71.
Park Taehwan of South Korea won silver with a time of 1:44.85; almost two seconds behind Phelps. Peter Vanderkaay of the U.S. won bronze at 1:45.14.
