Biography: Barack Obama: birth name: Barack Hussein Obama II; born on August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Obama is the junior United States Senator from Illinois and presidential nominee of the Democratic Party in the 2008 general election. No, he’s not an actor but his bio is definitely worth writing about.

Obama is the first African American to be nominated by a major political party for president. Obama’s parents met when they were in the University of Hawaii, his dad was a foreign student from Kenya. His mom,  Ann Dunham, a Caucasian American from Wichita, Kansas. His parents split up when he was two years old and later divorced. Obama’s biological dad returned to Kenya and only saw his son, Obama once before dying in car accident in 1982.

Barack’s mom remarried Lolo Soetoro, a native of Indonesia. In 1967, Barack and her mother along with his then step-father moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where Barack attended local schools until he was ten years old. He then returned back to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents until he graduated from high school. His mother also returned back to Hawaii in 1972. Barack’s mother and his then step-father finalized their divorce in 1980. Obama’s mother died of Ovarian cancer in 1995.

Obama moved to Los Angeles after high school and attended Occidental College for two years. He then transferred to Columbia University in NYC where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations. He graduated from Columbia University in 1983 with a B.A. degree. In 1988 he went on to Harvard Law School and in 1991, he graduated from Havard with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude.

Obama met his wife, Michelle Robinson, in June 1989.  They began dating later that summer and were married on October 3, 1992. The couple has two daughters, Malia Ann was born in 1998 and Natasha born in 2001.

Wow, I am getting teary eyes for some odd reasons! Whether Barack Obama becomes the first Black US president or not remains to be seen but he sure is a legend and the gossip columns love him dearly!

On November 4th, 2008, Obama won the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election and his inauguration is on January 20th 2009! Congratulations to Mr. Obama!
