Jamie Spears, Britney’s dad, terrified British reporter Sharon Churcher in 2002 with his drunken knife-wielding and overbearing demands. Churcher traveled to Kentwood, Louisiana to interview Britney‘s family and ended up spending a disturbing night with Jamie Spears in his Kentwood shack.

A very heavily intoxicated Jamie didn’t want Churcher to leave when the interview was over, threatening her with a knife and bellowing at her to spend the night in the house.
Britney’s father subjected me to a hostile drunken monologue while refusing to let me leave. Every time I got up to go, he picked up a large carving knife and theatrically stabbed it into the wooden table at which we were sitting. ‘You can sleep here,’ he said. ‘You said you wanted to know what it was like being Britney.’ He had been drinking heavily and was chewing Kodiak tobacco and showed me round the little house where Britney grew up while his ‘bodyguard’ cooked a huge iron pan of crayfish outside on a camping stove.” via the Daily Mail
Sounds absolutely charming! What a wonderful American representative for an international reporter curious about the upbringing of one of our most celebrated pop tarts.
Churcher goes on to say she only escaped from the redneck claws of Jamie when they went to a local bar to get more beer.
Whew. That would be enough to scare a foreigner out of the deep south indefinitely.
