Patrick McDermott, Oliver Newton John’s ex boyfriend was featured on NBC Dateline tonight. McDermotth disappeared mysteriously after an over-night fishing trip off the coast of San Pedro, California on June 30th, 2005. The question is whether he’s still alive in hiding or he’s dead?

McDermott had filed for bankruptcy previously and had been court ordered to pay overdue child support to his former wife, actress Yvette Niper.

Phillip Klein, a Dutch investigator was a guest on Dateline to talk about the McDermott’s case.

According to witnesses, McDermott paid his galley tab, which consisted of a drink and two hot dogs about an hour before the boat arrived in San Pedro.

Several days passed before anyone reported Patrick missing. He failed to show up at a family event on July 6 and relatives started searching for him on July 11. Items that belonged to Patrick were left on the boat, including his wallet and keys.

Other witnesses claim they saw Patrick leave the boat on July 1. The U.S. Coast Guard is still treating this as a missing person’s case. Some have speculated that McDermott faked his disappearance because of overwhelming financial problems and family distress.

Over the past 20 months there have been 16 sightings of Patrick in Mexico. Investigators have been tracking Patrick throughout Mexico. He is believed to be working on a Yacht in the pacfic ocean. Investigators have tracked McDermott to a small town north of Puerto Vallarta through investigative means. Investigators believe that McDermott will again attempt to find a location in Mexico to hide in order not to be seen by the public and to keep a low profile. He was last seen less than 60 days ago.
