Jennifer Hudson won the first Grammy Award handed out on Sunday night. It was an emotional moment for the whole crowd, who can only imagine what she went through in October with the triple homicide in her family’s home.  Jennifer won best R & B album.

Jennifer was also scheduled to perform at the Grammys, who are now missing Rihanna in the lineup.  Per People Magazine:

The singer collected the evening’s first major award, best R&B album for her self-titled debut, making reference to her slain family in a tearful acceptance speech.

“Thank God, who brought me through,” Hudson, 27, said. “I’d like to thank my family in heaven – and those who are here today.”

The singer also thanked fiancé David Otunga, who told E! before the show, “the last few months have been an ordeal and it just brought us closer,” for his support.

Jennifer made her first public appearance last weekend when she sang the National Anthem for the Superbowl crowd in Tampa Bay.  She is slowly making her way back in to the public forum after the murder of her mother, brother and nephew.  You go girl!
