Natasha Richardson’s family is supposed to make a statement today. Rumors swirled about her accident and the extent of her injuries on the internet, all of which sound very grave.  The record will be set straight soon.

One website had said Natasha was dead.  It shortly issued a retraction, stating she was brain dead and not expected to live.  TMZ said later that she was not brain dead, but sedated and being flown from Montreal to New York City.

Late last night, sources at Fox say Natasha is indeed brain dead, but being flown to New York where life support will be disconnected.

Sources close to Tony-award winning actress Natasha Richardson tell FOXNews.com that the 45-year-old actress is brain dead, and being transported back to New York City before she is to be taken off life support.

Richardson’s condition deteriorated following a skiing accident on Monday on a beginner’s trail at the Mont Tremblant ski resort in Quebec, Canada.

If this is true, it is sad news indeed.  Natasha and husband Liam Neeson have two sons, 12 and 13 who were skiing by their mother at the time of the accident.  They were with her when she tumbled, but did not hit anything and stood up.  She also walked back to her room before she fell ill with a headache. Apparently she wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Fox News reports:

Richardson was reportedly in serious condition with a head injury after falling on a beginner’s trail during a ski lesson at the Mont Tremblant ski resort in Quebec, Canada.
