Zac Efron has had enough of the High School Musical-type movie to last him a lifetime. Literally. Efron recently turned down the role in the remake of Footloose because he’s sick of making musicals. Instead, Zac would like to focus more on movies like 17 Again, the film in theatres now where he co-stars with Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann.

He told E!’s Marc Malkin:

“It doesn’t mean no more musicals forever, but right now I had so much fun doing 17 Again that I think that’s the direction I wanna head in.”

It was also announced that Efron would star in the movie version of the Ben Sherwood book The Death & Life of Charlie St. Cloud.  His latest project is a bit dark he admits. Zac is slated to play a cemetary caretaker who talk to dead people — specifically his dead younger brother.

Very different from High School Musical, indeed! Alas, Zac assures us it’s a “fantastic story.”
