Playboy is up for sale for $300 million as reports by NY Post. Is Hugh Hefner thinking of retiring? Perhaps it’s not Hefner’s ultimate wish but Playboy is a publicly listed company and it has gotten deeper and deeper in the red. Looking out for shareholders’ benefits – a sale isn’t at all a bad idea. Only if they can find a buyer who’s willing to step up.

The old sex pot Hefner started his Playboy empire back in 1953. Playboy lost a whooping $13.7 million in the most recent quarter, compared with a loss of $4.2 million a year ago! What’s the matter, no one likes porn anymore? Not so, the internet and video-on-demand has eroded its core brand, the Playboy magazine.
The battered Playboy’s market capitalization is now around $100 million and nobody has been willing to pay the substantial premium that it would take to persuade Hefner to sell. Hef still holds 70 percent of the voting stock of the company.
“Everyone says he’ll never let go, that he’ll take it with him to the grave,” said one source.
I believe in the source. Hefner can’t retire? How else would Hef retire? He loves living his dream and he’s doing just that. There’s nothing wrong, it’s Hugh Hefner and we’ll always remember him to be The World’s Biggest PLAYBOY; for now, he’s the old sex pot.

What a shame. I remember looking at Playboy at the barber shop when I was like 12. Back then they left something to the imagination- Today’s porn would warp the brain of your average 12 year old, at least the 1972 variety of 12 year old.
Plus it had the jokes, comics(!) and yes, articles. I suppose guys could still read Esquire for a men’s magazine, but it’s still a loss.
