Jessica Simpson somehow scored the June cover of Vanity Fair. One question before we go any further: WHY?!  Jessica’s last movie went straight to DVD, she was dropped by her country label, ostracized for being a fatty, and blamed for football-playing boyfriend Tony Romo’s poor playing. So Grayden Carter (VF editor-in-chief) clearly thought: Give Jessica Simpson the cover!

Anyway, Jessica did take beautiful Mario Testino pictures and in the interview she talks about her divorce, Papa Joe, and watching Tony play. While she thinks the media is a big, old meanie, she would “never say” half the things us snarky bloggers have. There wasn’t anything incredibly groundbreaking but here are a few soundbites:

On Nick Lachey:

“I have not spoken to him in years. [As for the show,] in all honesty, I believe it did not affect our marriage. Because we enjoyed watching those episodes, and that will always be a time I cherish. It made me understand what marriage is, what love is, what commitment is.”

On Papa Joe:

“I can talk to my dad like he’s my manager, and put ‘Dad’ on the back burner. We’ve been doing it since I was 13. So, at this point, we’re in a good rhythm. A lot of people find it strange, but it’s the only way I know. And I don’t care to know another way, because it suits me. And we’ve done a pretty dang good job.”
