Kate Hudson recently beat out Cameron Diaz fror a role in the upcoming movie Nine. Nine is a going to be a musical based an aging film director (played by Daniel Day Lewis) who gets tangled up in complicated and doomed relationships with many women, including Kate Hudson‘s character Stephanie, Penelope Cruz as Carla and Nicole Kidman as Claudia.

The Daily Mail reports that Kate‘s superior singing abilities scored her the role. Cameron on the other hand was a better dancer, but couldn’t hold a tune. According to the paper:
Cameron was keen to land a lead part outside the romantic comedy genre she is best known for,’ says a source. She gave an amazing audition and her dance routine was something else but her singing let her down and Kate, who wasn’t as good a dancer but was the better singer, got it.’
