Simon Cowell would like to produce a remake of Saturday Night Fever and cast Zac Efron as the leading role. Back in 1977, John Travolta was cast as Tony Manero, who disco danced his way through songs by the Bee Gees. This time, however, Cowell would like a beefed up Efron and songs by Timbaland.

Simon has been looking into buying the rights for years and opened discussions with Robert [Stigwood] about the remake. The charm offensive has been in full swing and they made a breakthrough over the last couple of weeks. RobertSimon was keen to get some assurances the original wouldn’t be completely butchered before he agreed to the deal. has been drawing up a list of people he wants to get involved. When that meets Robert‘s expectations, the contracts will be signed.”
