Apparently, Taylor did not make the decision on his own. According to source, Lautner was told having a girlfriend at this point could hurt his career so he agreed to call everything off with Gomez.
“Am told Taylor was supposedly strongly encouraged by his father and Summit not to be seen with a girlfriend, especially as his star is on the rise. They want him to focus on career, on the work, and on letting every little girl make believe she could be The One. He wasn’t happy about it, but he listened. These are the sacrifices you make for fame, right?”

i think that it’s ridiculous that they have to stoop so low as to make them think he’s available. So effin what if he has a girlfriend? that’s still not gonna stop teenager girl from wetting their panties! and he has talent. they shouldnt be scared that because he wants to have a some what “normal” teenage life (whatever that it) that they’ll lose their fan base cause he’s out with some girl. look at zac efron he can’t act, sing or dance and he has a girlfriend and he still seems to making the girls crazy! Hollywood and the entertainment business all together is crap. you have to have a certain image. its BS!
