DJ AM real name Adam Goldstein was a very famous DJ in the Hollywood, New York and Vegas club scene. DJ AM struggled with drug abuses, serious weight problem and depression. He had miraculously survived a near-fatal plane crash less than a year ago. He was found death on Friday late afternoon in his New York apartment.

DJ AM, 36 was found face-down in his bed wearing only sweat pants, with a crack pipe and unspecified prescription drugs.

His past struggles:
In an interview with The New York Times in 2007, Goldstein said he drank heavily, used cocaine and smoked crack in his early 20s. He reached his lowest point when he attempted suicide in 1997.

After a night of doing cocaine, Goldstein, 24 at the time, sat before a mirror and “could not move away from staring at myself,” he said. He put a gun in his mouth and, sobbing, said, “God, please help me.” – People

Goldstein also told NY Times in the same interview that he had cleaned up his life — including having gastric bypass surgery after his weight ballooned to 324 pounds — and had managed to stay sober for nine years.

DJ AM survived a near-fatal plane crash back in September 2008. Goldstein and Travis Barker were the only survivors.

Goldstein had dated Nicole Richie and they got engaged back in 2005. The two called off their engagement in December of that year. He also dated Mandy Moore and they broke up in 2007. Goldstein most recently dated model Hayley Wood, they were said to have called it quit earlier this month.
