Jennifer Aniston told the September issue of Elle that she doesn’t mind being single. In fact, she likes being the poster girl for love gone wrong. Whew. That was close. Good to know Jenny‘s in on the joke. On a side note, Aniston is looking criminally good for 40 (yet again!) on the cover and and inside the issue.

Besides her rocking body, the best part of Jennifer is how down to earth and witty she is. Check out these self-deprecating, yet smart, quotes below. (via Elle)
On being single:
“I’m not going to ignore the pink elephant in the living room. It’s fine. I can take it. If I’m the emblem for ‘this is what it looks like to be the lonely girl getting on with her life,’ so be it…I support women, men, anybody who is in a place that’s not their strongest and who is ready to push forward.”
On her upbringing (this one’s a bit eyebrow-raising):
“I remember being 7 and asking my mom if I was as pretty as [my best friend] Monique. And with all the love in the world, my mom looked at me and said, ‘Oh, honey, you’re so funny.’ “So, she doesn’t lie to me . . . She answers the question by not answering and instead tells me what she thinks is my greatest strength.”
Wow. Not sure where we’d be with a mother who laughs when we ask if we’re pretty, but if the outcome is Jennifer Aniston then so be it!
