Dad says Ashlee and Jessica Simpson are not failures. Ashlee made her debut on Broadway last night and looked, well, dark and scary. Jessica was curvy and blonde. Dad Joe Simpson said of his girls that dabble in a lot of things but never truly excel, they haven’t failed.

Ashlee was thin, pale and went back to dyed black hair. Jessica was tan, blonde and curvy. Talk about extremes. Their dad said via Gossip Girls:

Papa Joe Simpson recently told press that Ashlee’sejection from “Melrose Place” wasn’t that big of a deal. “It was never a loss. The world says whatever it says. [The world], again, always want to make it look like we’re failures but we’re really just a family that works hard.”

“My children look at ups and downs and rise up above it all and remain strong…We’re just normal people, and we always try to be who we say we are.”

That is true – they always appear to be working. They don’t just club hop and shop. Jessica and Ashlee actually do produce some things worthy of attention quite often. Whether it’s good attention, however, depends!
