As it turns out, Reese Witherspoon was the one to break it off with Jake Gyllenhaal. Reese and Jake have been sharing a house since June of 2008, and while rumors sprouted that the two would eventually marry; in the end it was Reese who got “cold feet” and dumped a “heart-broken” Jake.

Hmmmmm. Something just doesn’t seem, er, right about this story. We think there’s probably a much seedier tale, but usmagazine.com is screaming from the mountaintops:
The once-golden couple “fought constantly in the past few months,” and that the relationship concluded over a series of phone calls. No one cheated. There was no drama…She felt pressured to wed again but she wasn’t ready,” an insider says. “She couldn’t give Jake enough and she got cold feet. Jake wanted all of her.”
Hmmmmmm. Likely story. We find it unbelievable that Jake watned “all of her” and Reese found this unsuitable. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on all the nasty details.

I bet Jake was the one who refused to extend the fauxmance contract.
He was so happy and relaxed during Brothers promotion, he must be relieved to put this faking business behind.
