Simon Cowell confirms he’s leaving American Idol! Cowell has officially admitted he’s leaving American Idol after this season. Simon will be focusing on bringing UK’s hit talent show “The X Factor” to the U.S.

Cowell told reporters Monday, “The X Factor will launch in 2011. Because of that, this will be my last season on American Idol.”
Sigh! What is Idol without Simon?
Simon is said to be both the judge and the executive director of the American version of X Factor.
“I’m thrilled that we have put a date on the launch of the U.S. version of The X Factor, and delighted to be continuing to work with FOX,” Cowell continued. “We have a fantastic relationship, a great team and are all very excited about this.” – via Hollyscoop
Season 9 of American Idol premieres tonight at 8PM on FOX. This will be Simon’s last season so you don’t want to miss out!

I’m surprised he’s leaving Amercan Idol and am not certain it’s a wise move. The show must have been a huge cash crop for him, it’s a real risk.
