Corey Haim’s death last week from a prescription pill overdose has its connections in an illegal drug ring. Haim OD’d after swallowing a slew of legal pills after battleing flu-like symptoms. While on the surface this doesn’t seem like a cause of suspicions, authorities believe the prescriptions might be unearthing an underground ring that furnished pills to people illegally.

State Attorney General Jerry Brown says his office is conducting a probe of Haim‘s death because an unauthorized prescription in his name was found during a probe of fraudulent drug-prescription pads in San Diego. Brown said the prescription drug ring ring under investigation operates by ordering prescription drug pads from authorized vendors using stolen doctor identities — i.e., identity fraud. The pads are sold on the street to prescription drug addicts or dealers.
