The 2010 Winter Olympics came to an official close during a closing ceremony held on Sunday just hours after Canada, the host country defeated the United States in the men’s hockey during overtime!

The ceremony was held at Canada Place where 60,000 people attended. The good-spirited crowd was entertained by A-list Canadian artists including Nickelback, Eva Avila, Alanis Morissette, and Neil Young.

Canada did not forget the painful death of luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, 21 who suffered a fatal crash at the Whistler Sliding Center 17 days ago right before the official start of the Olympics.

Jacques Rogge, the International Olympic Committee president: “We started the games in very difficult circumstances, which is something the Olympic movement won’t forget,” “We have a moral responsibility to ensure the safety of the athletes, but we will never be able to eliminate all the risk”

Medal counts: The US winning the most medals during the event with 9 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze medals which totals to 37.

Germany  takes the second spot with 30 medals including 10 gold, 13 silver and 7 bronze.

Canada, the host country placed third with 26 medals – 14 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze.

This makes US winning the most medals and Canada winning the most gold!

Well done Vancouver! The next Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia in 2014.
