M.I.A. was so unhappy about her recent profile in The New York Times magazine that she tweeted the writer’s personal number in revenge. M.I.A. was given a hefty chunk of editorial space in the magazine and writer Lynn Hirschberg wrote a pretty explosive piece probably quoting M.I.A. pretty accurately.

more M.I.A. after the hop…

M.I.A. talked a lot of political stuff — mostly centering around her hometown Sri Lanka, and how she spoke out against the country’s issues and suffered through her home and phone being bugged by the Los Angeles Sri Lankan community afterward. Allegedly. So she says.

In a move that doesn’t make that much sense, M.I.A. then tweeted the writer’s number with the cryptic message:

CALL ME IF YOU WANNA TALK TO ME ABOUT THE NYT TRUTH ISSUE, ill be taking calls all days bitches.”

While Hirschberg is annoyed at the move, she writes it all of as just part of M.I.A.‘s role in society as a “provocateur.”

It’s a fairly unethical thing to do, but I don’t think it’s surprising. She’s a provocateur, and provocateurs want to be provocative.

What do you think? Is M.I.A. losing her marbles?
