Adam Lambert’s new video gets mixed reviews. While some critics say there was a lot of pressure put on Adam to deliver and be the anti-American Idol runner up, he isn’t doing it. Sure, he might not be like the typical, straight and boring winners, but he isn’t daringly opposite any more either.
More pictures of Adam after the leap…
Well can you blame him? Look what happened when Adam did go way opposite on live TV. He got blackballed from performing!
Lambert was supposed to be the anti-“Idol.” Openly gay and proud of it, the singer courted scandal by kissing a male keyboard player and grinding against a dancer’s head at the American Music Awards last year. Afterward he brazenly announced, “It’s time to take risks, be a little more brave, time to open people’s eyes and if it offends them, then maybe I’m not for them.”
But the “If I Had You” video is neither risky nor brave.
The foggy forest setting is clearly going for a sexy vampire vibe, but instead of recalling “Dracula” it evokes “Twilight,” the most-chaste, unsexiest, tweeniest bloodsuckers ever.
Ouch! Adam has calmed down it seems – OK, a little and not in the fashion department. Do you think he was told to tone down the sexuality or did he do it himself because it was getting old?

If you look closely at the negative side of the “mixed” reviews you will note that the reason the reviewers say something bad is that Adam’s video did not live up to THEIR expectations. They did not review on the basis of what Adam chose to do.
I’ve seen one negative review out of many positive ones, and even that one was not altogether negative. It was the one you mention, and I think his fans have learned that you can not expect the expected from Adam other than to know whatever he does will be great in one way or another. I continue to believe that Adam Lambert is an iconic star that fits no mold (like all the greats before him) and his video is a lot of fun. And isn’t it nice to hear an amazing voice for a change instead of something that’s auto-tuned to death? I think so.
I don’t think he toned it down because he is ‘old’ or because he felt he had to. He toned it down because if they can’t show a gay male kiss on live television, they won’t air it if it’s in a video. As an artist the more plays the better, if they refuse to play a video because to the double standard between males and females that Adam streched to the limit brilliantly, how far will he really get in the music industry?
Adam is nobody’s puppet and you can’t put him in a box! He is a creative spirit who loves to entertain. Just enjoy, “It’s not that deep” to quote Adam
Anything that is not 100% positive can be considered “mixed”. I have read many reviews of this video and my guess it’s pretty lose to 85% Love it!
Most of the reviews I have read have been positive. Only saw the one quote above that was negative. The poor guy is d—if he does and d— if he doesn’t. He got slammed for what he did on the AMA’s and if he is too family friendly, he gets panned for that. Can’t you all see he is multi-dimensional just like his hair and clothes? Never the same Adam twice–neither does he perform his music the same each time he sings. That is what makes him such a fascinating performer. The video is meant to be campy, fun, glitzy and loving. Nothing’ wrong with that. Stop being so cynical you guys. Let’s have some fun for once. All of his fans==male, female, gay, straight, young, old are having fun. You are missing out!.
Adam presents himself through the vibe of whatever song he’s performing. If it’s sexy he’ll be sexy (For Your Entertainment). If it’s emotional, he’ll be emotional (Whataya Want from me). If I had you has a joyful, fun kind of vibe so we get happy go lucky Adam. He is the consumate performer and actor. I LOVE all sides of this amazing man.
Adam is NOT a puppet for the media. The video is exactly what Adam wanted it to be. If the media had bothered to read his tweets or listen to any interviews where he discussed his vision they’d know that it more than delivers HIS view and is fun to watch and listen to.
exactly how daring did you want him to be with this video? If by daring, you mean sexual, it wouldn’t make sense. That’s not what this song is about. He would get criticized for making a video that’s too sexual for no reason. If an an acid trip/rave set in a forest isn’t exciting enough, then what the heck is? I’m starting to think that for one side, nothing will be daring enough until he has a full on sex scene with another man. And for the other side, he won’t be family friendly enough until he declares celebacy. he had a daring video for “for your entertainment” and I can count the numer of times I saw it on tv on 1 finger. And one bad review amongst overwelmingly positive ones is hardly “mixed reviews.”
