Bono Biography
In 1976, Bono became the front man of the legendary rock group U2 while still in high school. Drummer Larry Mullen put the group together after posting a note for musicians on the bulletin board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, Ireland. Bono and all band mates came from the same school, as did Bono’s wife, Alison Hewson (together since 1975; married since 1982).
Bono is given rightful accolade by fans, and even the harshest music critics as an outstanding performer and song-writer. In 2005, U2 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Bono has written almost all of U2′s songs, with themes of religion and politics over the usual rock & roll fare. His lyrics frequently allude to a religious connection or meaning, evident in songs such as “Gloria” from the band’s album October, and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” from The Joshua Tree.
During the 80s, Bono was known for his rebellious nature, which turned to political rage during the band’s War, The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum albums. By 2011, U2 has earned 22 Grammy Awards, so the music was taken well by the fans.
Bono has done much charitable work in the way of free concerts and money to Africa and South America. An accomplished activist in her own right, his wife, Ali Hewson once declined an invitation to run for President of Ireland because her husband “would not move to a smaller house”. They live in Dublin with their four children: Jordan, Memphis Eve, Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi Q and John Abraham.
