Reps for The Beach Boys might sue Katy Perry for her California Gurls line. Katy Perry‘s latest single, ‘California Gurls’, lifts a line from the famous Beach Boys anthem ‘California Girls’ and Rondor Music is none too pleased. The record label feels that Capitol — Perry‘s label — should give the song’s creators Brian Wilson and Mike Love royalties.
more Katy Perry after the hop…
In response to the line ‘I wish they all could be California Girls”:
“A record industry source told Page Six, “Rondor Music has sent a letter to Capitol on behalf of Mike Love and Brian Wilson, saying Katy has cribbed one of the most famous lyrics in history, so Love and Wilson should be entitled to a writing credit and a portion of the royalties.”
What do you think? Should Katy Perry‘s label pony up and feed them royalties?
