Portia de Rossi admits she used to live off only 300 calories a day. Portia de Rossi is now healthy and happy with Ellen Degeneres, but back when she was starring on Ally McBeal she suffered from a pretty awful bout of anorexia.
On Monday, Portia is scheduled to appear on Oprah Winfrey and when there she divulged the audience in her ultra-strict eating pattern in the 90s.
“Three hundred calories…a day,” reveals Portia while discussing the struggle that is the focus of her new book, Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain.
“It wasn’t that I was proud of it,” she tells Oprah. “But it was certainly a recognition for my self-control. I definitely had some pretty amazing willpower to get down to 82 pounds. And that’s what I was holding on to. I didn’t think about anything else.”
