Ryan Gosling was fired from The Lovely Bones for being too fat. Ryan Gosling was initially cast in the role of grieving father Jack Salmon, but was quickly (and quietly) given the heave-ho when director Peter Jackson saw how much weight he’d put on.
Gosling thought a father of child who’d been murdered would ease his pain with “melted Haagen Dazs ice cream” as a way to cope with the death.
“We had a different idea of how the character should look,” Gosling told The Hollywood Reporter. “I really believed he should be 210 pounds. We didn’t talk very much during the preproduction process, which was the problem,” Gosling said. “It was a huge movie, and there’s so many things to deal with, and he couldn’t deal with the actors individually. I just showed up on set, and I had gotten it wrong. Then I was fat and unemployed.”
Great story, tragic ending… should Ryan have waited before he put on all the weight to make sure it was OK?
