Regis Philbin quit his show because of MONEY! Regis was told that he’d get a pay cut when his existing deal expires for his gig Live With Regis and Kelly.
Sources connected with the show tell TMZ that Regis’ agent, Jim Griffin, was talking with execs from the ABC station group about a new contract for Regis when his current deal expires.
TMZ was told that it was clear Regis would be getting a pay cut, partly because the show is not performing as well as in the past … and partly because he takes a lot of time off.
Sources say Regis is currently getting somewhere between $18 and $20 million a year.
As for Regis’ agent, Jim Griffin, Reeg fired him. The story goes Regis felt Griffin did not negotiate the deal effectively.
Whatever, he’s 79 perhaps it’s time to retire anyway. Money isn’t everything.
