Zsa Zsa Gabor was hospitalized Sunday to undergo surgery to have part of her right leg amputated because gangrene was setting in. (We’ve uploaded a lot of pictures of Zsa Zsa through the years in the image gallery below.)
Gangrene is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that arises when a considerable mass of body tissue dies. Her publicist John Blanchette said doctors examined a growing lesion on Gabor’s leg Sunday and decided she needed to undergo surgery. She was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for the surgical procedure. Her husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt was by her side.
Zsa Zsa, 93, had hip replacement surgery in July and has been hospitalized several times since for swelling in her legs and blood clots. She asked for a priest to read her last rites in August when her condition was critical.
The Hungarian-born actress was known for her beauty during her younger days. Zsa Zsa was married nine times, once to Paris Hilton’s late grandfather, the founder of the Hilton hotels chain, Conrad Hilton.
So sad. We all go through the cycle of life, don’t we?
