Was the rumor that Courteney Cox and her Cougar Town co-star were having an affair the reason she and David Arquette split? Possibly, says Arquette who was a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show and sat down to talk about his separation from Cox. While he also sought treatment for alcohol addiction earlier this year, he says her possible infidelity left him devastated.
Last year every tabloid reported on Courteney Cox spending a lot of time with one of her c0-stars and Arquette says this fueled his addiction.
“I was angry with my wife. There were tabloid stories coming out about her and someone on her show having, you know, an affair. I thought she was having an affair with someone. Nobody would’ve said something like that if she weren’t.”
While it seems he’s now been convinced she was faithful, he had ego issues with her making more money than him.
“She was on this incredibly successful show, so she made more money than me. I was sort of always in her shadow. And I’d held all this bitterness.”
While we’d love to report a happy ending now, Arquette says he still doesn’t know where he and Courteney stand. Only that he loves his wife and hopes they can work it out.
