Earlier this year, Star magazine printed a controversial cover and story suggesting that KATIE HOLMES was addicted to drugs. While the details – as the tabloid stories often are – were fuzzy at best, it was obvious that the magazine was trying to allude to the fact that Holmes has a substance abuse issue.
Soon after Katie‘s legal team slapped a $50 million lawsuit on the magazine, thus forcing the publication to apologize. Here’s the official statement they made yesterday.
“In a recent issue of Star, we published headlines about Katie Holmes that could be read to suggest that she was addicted to drugs. Star did not intend to suggest that Ms. Holmes was a drug addict or was undergoing treatment for a drug addiction. Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any misperception and will be making a substantial donation to charity on Ms. Holmes’ behalf for any harm that we may have caused.”
A “substantial donation to charity” eh? Do you think this formal apology will be enough for Katie or will she try to squeeze money out of the magazine, too?
