BENICIO DEL TORO Bio
Benicio del Toro is a Puerto Rican actor and film producer. He won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a BAFTA Award for his role as Javier Rodríguez in Traffic (2000), a riveting movie.
He shined in the movie, among a top-notch ensemble cast in Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic, a complex dissection of the North American drug wars. As Javier Rodriguez —a Mexican border cop stayed honest amid the corruption and subterfuge of illegal drug trafficking —del Toro had to speak most of his role in Spanish, which was salient in this movie.
Del Toro is also known for his roles as Fred Fenster in The Usual Suspects (1995) and Jackie Boy in Sin City (2005). In 2008, he portrayed Che Guevara in Che (2008).
Del Toro was in the Hollywood news, when asked by a reporter in early 2011 if he will ever marry, he retorted “Why? Everyone says, ‘Why isn’t he married?’ But it’s like, F***! Why do I have to get married? Just so I can get divorced?” He told The Times that he didn’t want his West Hollywood apartment, to be “invaded” by a wife and children. Now, although he claims they are not in a relationship, he and the daughter of Rod Stewart, Kimberly Stewart, are expecting their first baby in late 2011.
