You may notice something new about JACK SPARROW – he has another scar: X marks the spot. The new “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” has JOHNNY DEPP sporting a mysterious red “X”. Not on a map, but on his face. In particular, high on his right cheekbone. But what’s it lead to, and who’s put it there?
“X marks the spot” is even on his wax statue at Madame Tussaud’s, pictured above. Is it the new location for the Fountain of Youth Jack Sparrow quests for in the new Pirates film?
Well, the answer to that is…no one really knows. Not even Jack.
Hollywood news and gossip noticed that Johnny Depp himself is being mysterious about the whole thing:
“It’s nice to have a little bit of a pre-story to things…you don’t really get that [scar] from a sword fight, do you? I reckon that he probably just woke up with it and had no idea.”
In fact, Johnny‘d been itching for someone on set to ask him about it:
“I kept waiting for someone to ask me, ‘Where did it come from?’ But no one did.”
It seemed everyone on the production was satisfied with that enigmatic “X”. And so it stayed, along with a new trinket hanging from Jack’s bandanna – his very own gold tooth (now who pulled that one out?), longer dreadlocks, and a new blue silk vest. Someone from the costume department’s getting creative, eh?
Watch the trailer for the fourth Pirates sequel here and see if you can spot all those changes…
