The American Indian rides again! According to celebrity gossip websites, Johnny Depp‘s next project as the brown braided sidekick in the remake of “The Lone Ranger” is guaranteed to bring scalping back into fashion. No, Brad Pitt‘s Lt. Aldo Raine basterd character isn’t making an “inglorious” appearance in this upcoming film – Johnny‘s taking Tonto to the next level by making him boss the masked cowboy around…
In the latest Hollywood gossip, this unexpected twist will have Tonto as the main character with the white man as his sidekick. Johnny, who has American Indian blood running strong in his veins intends to change the way Native Americans are portrayed in film.
“I remember watching it as a kid and going: ‘Why is the f–ing Lone Ranger telling Tonto what to do?…I liked Tonto, even at that tender age, and knew Tonto was getting the unpleasant end of the stick here. That’s stuck with me. And when the idea came up [for the movie], I started thinking about Tonto and what could be done in my own small way try to — ‘eliminate’ isn’t possible — but reinvent the relationship, to attempt to take some of the ugliness thrown on the Native Americans, not only in The Lone Ranger, but the way Indians were treated throughout history of cinema, and turn it on its head.”
Bravo, Johnny! We’re looking forward to this Gore Verbinski (director of “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise)-helmed flick.
So, “Up yours, Kemo Sabe…awaaaaaay!”
