L.A. Laker RON ARTEST is planning on changing his name to “Metta World Peace.” Seriously. We’re not kidding.
Ron reportedly went to the L.A. Supreme Court this Thursday, according to the latest celebrity news, to file a petition to have his name legally changed from Ron Artest to “Metta World Peace.” Why? The Lakers forward did not elaborate, simply citing “personal reasons.”
It’s a pretty ironic choice, considering Ron became infamous—back when he was playing with the Indiana Pacers—for jumping into the sidelines and attacking a fan, which he got suspended for. Not exactly something a guy with the last name “Peace” should be doing, huh?
But all of that’s behind Ron now. The athlete has since turned his reputation around and is now apparently a peace-loving guy who supports PETA and is involved in advocacies for mental health issues.
Ron is scheduled to attend a hearing on August 26 regarding his name change petition.
