Entertainment news just heard – the classic 1987 film “Dirty Dancing” will soon have a remake, and the new movie’s in the works. The first one starred the late PATRICK SWAYZE and “Dancing With The Stars” season 11 winner JENNIFER GREY in a poignant rich girl-poor boy dance romance that set the precedent for other dance-centered films like “Lambada” and the “Step Up” franchise.
The original film’s choreographer, Kenny Ortega has been tapped to direct the film’s remake…
“The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me,”
Ortega, who’s also directed all the “High School Musical” films as well as Michael Jackson‘s “This Is It” said.
Still, it’s going to be a challenge finding a cast who’ll live up to the standards set by Patrick Swayze, who played a resort dance instructor and Jennifer Grey, who essayed the role of a wealthy teenager, both of whom fall in love in the original movie, which is set in the 1960′s.
“Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him.”
Ortega says.
