Poor JOHNNY DEPP…the Lone Ranger film remake that he’s been so eager to make to bring the native American up a notch has been canned due to a lack of funding. Guess not even A-list celebrities can escape the economic downturn that’s affected Tinseltown in a big way…
According to Hollywood gossip websites, Disney pulled the plug on the film, which was anticipated to cost around $250 million, something the movie giant just wasn’t prepared to bankroll despite the money-making presence of Johnny Depp, who’s already had a record of pulling blockbuster earners.
This means Depp, who really wanted to make the film, is seeing his dreams going down the drain all because of the economy.
“I remember watching it as a kid, with Jay Silverheels and Clayton Moore, and going: ‘Why is the fucking Lone Ranger telling Tonto what to do?’”
Depp has said.
“When the idea came up, I started thinking about Tonto and what could be done in my own small way try to — eliminate isn’t possible — but reinvent the relationship, to attempt to take some of the ugliness thrown on the Native Americans, not only in The Lone Ranger, but the way Indians were treated throughout history of cinema, and turn it on its head.”
Johnny Depp being Johnny Depp, do you think he’ll shop around for another studio brave enough to finance his dream?

I love Johnny, but the man can’t do everything, people. I mean everything. So if the “Lone Ranger” doesn’t get made; well boo-hoo. There are other jobs.
The actor seems to be think highly of himself, that is for sure. Even as a kid he swore, how much classier can you be? LOL
Do we really want to live in a society that will shelve a Johnny Depp movie and churn out yet another Spy Kids? People, please, stop this madness!!

He doesn’t have to make it for 250 million. He could go independent even and bankroll it himself for 10 million. Or rewrite the script any studio would fund his box office power if it was not 250 million. Why on earth would it have to cost 250 million?
Sure, and I guess Johnny Depp will present a better image of American Indians by playing one. Why not get a genuine actor? Anyway, I don’t remember the Lone Ranger treating Tonto so badly. They were tight friends.
