Luscious ROSE MCGOWAN didn’t lead a charmed life…she says she escaped from a polygamous and sexually abusive cult when she was a child. The “Conan the Barbarian” star opened up about the horrific cult she grew up in, and counts herself lucky she fled before cult leaders started singling her out for child sex…
Rose spent her early childhood years living with the Children of God cult, now known these days as The Family International. She tells celebrity news that the sect was a “polygamous cult that blended free-love attitudes with Christian proselytizing.” Luckily, her father, deathly scared of Rose being subjected to sexual abuse, he spirited his family away when she was 9.
“You weren’t allowed to have imperfections,”
The “Charmed” witch recalls.
“I had a little wart on my thumb, and I remember walking down this hallway — a door opened and some adult grabbed me and just cut it off with a razor blade and stuck me back out in the hallway with it still bleeding.”
She also recounted how women were treated in the cult like nothing more than sexualized objects.
“They were basically there to serve the men sexually — you were allowed to have more than one wife. The cult’s women would sometimes travel to area bars to try to recruit, an act known as “flirty fishing.”
Fearful for his children’s future, Rose‘s father escaped with his family one night, and hid in an old house from cult members who searched for them when they were discovered missing.
“I remember a man trying to break in with a hammer,”
Rose said.
Her father eventually moved the family to Washington where they had to re-orient and adjust themselves to living the way normal people do.
Rose remains thankful for her lucky escape to this day.
“As strong as I like to think I’ve always been, I’m sure I could have been broken. I know I got out by the skin of my teeth.”
