The late Hollywood icon ELIZABETH TAYLOR‘s jewelry will be auctioned off by Christie’s in New York, and Liz’s complete collection of beautiful bling, including “The Mike Todd Tiara,” estimated between $60,000 to $80,000, will be going to the highest bidder.
Liz was a prolific jewelry collector, and some of her precious ornaments, which she wore in public, in various awards shows, and even in some of her movies, include “The Taj Mahal Diamond,” which celebrity news found out is over 300 years old, set in a gold and ruby chain that was a gift from one husband number 5 and 6, Richard Burton. It’s estimated to cost around half a million dollars.
“You can’t cry on a diamond’s shoulder, and diamonds won’t keep you warm at night, but they’re sure fun when the sun shines,”
was one of Liz‘s favorite quotes about her obsession with jewelry.
The late Academy Award winner, who succumbed to congestive heart failure in March this year, lived as sumptuously as any of the heroines she played on the silver screen. However, Taylor was hardly destitute when she died, and had no huge outstanding debts to pay on her estate. It actually comes as a big surprise that her four children, two of whom are women, chose to have all her jewelry auctioned off instead of keeping a few pieces of her famous collection for themselves.
Liz‘s complete jewelry collection is scheduled to go on sale at Christie’s New York by December, and while hordes of collectors and fans are soon to divide a king’s ransom in jewelry amongst themselves, the dispersal of her precious ornaments won’t diminish the memory of Dame Elizabeth Taylor as being one of the greatest movie stars of all time.
