Celebrity gossip websites have learned that RUSSELL BRAND wasn’t really barred from entering Canada… he was just joking! Sort of.
During the weekend Russell had to postpone a show at the Casino Rama in Orillia because he was unable to enter the country, and on his Twitter he made it seem as if he was being barred from entering Canada due to a customs issue, as he tweeted:
“HELP! I’m gonna be late for Casino Rama show unless someone can force Canadian customs officials to let us land in Orillia!”
The British comedian added:
“How do you manipulate customs officials? Wasn’t Hitler’s father a customs officer? I’m pretty sure he was.”
However, according to Canadian border officials and the Casino Rama itself, this was far from the truth. The casino tweeted:
“Ok all, let’s be clear @rustyrockets [Russell’s name on Twitter] is still in Cali, he never left, he has no immigration or border issue, it was a tech issue with plane!”
Jenna Hunter, a spokesperson for the Casino Rama, explained:
“They had technical issues with their plane in California and he wasn’t able to get another plane and get here in time… I think what he’s saying is there is no international airport up here…and therefore you can’t clear customs in Orillia.”
She added:
“I think he’s trying to be witty about the whole thing, but it really was just a plane issue, it wasn’t a customs issue at all.”
So yeah. Russell was just making a little joke… Canada isn’t denying him entry after all, unlike Japan did earlier this year. But we can’t help but think that this little prank of his may earn him a banned status the next time he tries to go to the country again, ‘cause you know, he kind of made them look bad.
