ELLE and DAKOTA FANNING grace the cover of the December issue of W Magazine…have these underaged actresses been too oversexualized for their own good?
“Twilight” vampire Dakota, who’s been a veteran child star for the last 12 years is only 17, and her sister Elle, who broke into showbiz in 2001 with “I Am Sam,” is just 13. What do these photos tell us in a world where children as young as 10 have launched their modeling careers on glossy publication pages?
It seems the fashion industry is leading the trend to sexualize young teens. Case in point, Dakota‘s Marc Jacobs “Lolita-like” perfume ad which was banned in England for being too sexually provocative. And fashion-obsessed Elle is reportedly being invited to front row seats at haute couture fashion shows.
Dakota shares she once had a kissing scene in Reese Witherspoon‘s “Sweet Home Alabama” when she was 8.
“I think that may be the most intimidated I’ve ever been—having to kiss that 10-year-old boy on the beach in Florida over and over.”
No wonder she and Elle are so at home dressed in clothing meant for women twice their age, and making eyes at the camera that’d get men (and women) who respond arrested for taking the jailbait.
And we wonder why there are guys like Jerry Sandusky out there?
