LADY GAGA posed as an oily fish for Visionaire 61 Magazine…but not to eat. Instead the “Born This Way Singer” portrayed a mermaid decked out in nothing but a tail and a full-body oil slick to protest the pollution of the world’s oceans by multinational companies:

Ugh. Now who’d want to eat that?

In truth, apart from the rainbow-colored hair, Gaga looks like she’d just been fished out of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill along with the other dead fish…

The celebrity photo shoot for the art magazine was done by well-known photographers, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, but how they’re explaining why an oil-slicked mermaid ended up on a high wooden chair, they’re not saying.

“There is no oil too thick as to destroy the imagination.”

Gaga was quoted as saying by entertainment news, doing her part to send her strong message against environmental pollution of the ocean.

This is not, in fact, Gaga‘s first foray into fish-dom. She once performed a Bette Middler routine dressed as a mermaid on a wheelchair, drawing harsh criticism for her unseemly insult to the differently-abled. She also appears as a captured mermaid named “Yuyi” in her music video, “You And I.”

So if you’re looking for this issue of Visionaire 61, just to see Gaga reprise her fishy role, you’re out of luck. The magazine only had 2,500 copies of this issue printed, and it costs $375 for a standard size edition.
