NICK CANNON made a joke about killing a dog and enraged not only PETA, but a lot of other listeners, as well, during his morning radio show on New York’s 92.3 NOW FM. Seems like the fib went on forever and ever, and no one tried to tell Nick to cut it.
Seems like Nick has to learn some lessons in political correctness. Either that or trimming down the punchline to make the joke really sound like a joke, and not something he did for real…
Apparently, Mariah Carey‘s significant other was doing a spiel about tying 50 balloons to his co-host’s pet pomeranian to see how far away it would float, but his delivery may have been skewed because he got a lot of angry reactions almost immediately.
“I think I might be getting fired,”
Cannon tweeted after the deluge of infuriated callers began.
“ @923nowfm boss just told me PETA is on the phone. #DAMN,”
Well, hey. Who’d have thought PETA actually listens to Nick Cannon‘s radio show?
“Radio bit gone seriously wrong” @923Nowfm … Probably won’t have a job in the morning…@923nowfm People are acting like I’m Mike Vick. I apologize. Now get over it …They are saying the program director, my producer and I are getting arrested. This can’t be serious.”
Nick bit out on Twitter after the deluge of calls became an avalanche. To his defense, he was only trying to give away Katy Perry concert tickets, and joked the lucky fan who caught the floating dog would find the tickets attached.
Nick didn’t stop there, however. He went on tweeting, blaming his producer for coming up with the idea of that joke until his lawyer finally stepped in to stop him from committing social media suicide.
“My Lawyer just told me to stop tweeting #NOBODYLOVESME…People really believed I would tie balloons to an animal and try to fly it!!!! I love dogs! I have 7 of my own!…Charli Roo is safe and sound w/ @SarahLeeGETIT. A prank gone wrong!”
Nick finally sent.
PETA remained unamused, however, and all they had to say was:
“If bad taste were a crime, we’d be going to jail with Nick, but joking about killing a dog, a kid, an old person—anyone—isn’t cool when there’s always the danger that some numbskull will do it for real.”
Poor Nick. Breathe, dude.
