Sultry model ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY says she was an “ugly Betty” growing up in Devon, England, and celebrity news can’t help but disbelieve her a little bit seeing her as she is now. But, lo! The angel has proof of her awkward teens, and she isn’t afraid to show it.
Well, okay…those photos aren’t exactly ugly by our standards, but seeing as how adolescence is fraught with crazy hormones and insecurity, the “Transformers 3″ star may very well have felt she was scraping the bottom of the looks barrel…
“I was a bit of an Ugly Betty when I was 15,”
the svelte model with the enviably silicone-free, bee-stung lips admits.
She also had braces and baby fat, so when she took an internship at a modeling agency in London, she was relegated to odd jobs like…
“getting coffee, lighting people’s cigarettes.”
Rosie remembers turning up at castings dressed…
“in trainers, with braids, a ton of makeup, plucked eyebrows.”
But the baby fat didn’t last, and neither did the braces. At the age of 18, Rosie moved to New York where she scored a coveted contract with Victoria’s Secret, wearing those mythical wings on the catwalk for the lingerie shows.
“It’s still such a huge thing for a model.”
Rosie reminisces.
“People kind of laugh about it and think it’s irrelevant, but I don’t know a girl in the world who would put those wings on and not feel, just for a split second, very special.”
And that includes us.
However, unlike Rosie, while we don’t really consider ourselves Ugly Bettys, we’re a far cry from ever becoming Victoria’s Secret angels except in our dreams…
