GERARD BUTLER had a near-death experience during a surfing accident while filming “Of Men and Mavericks” in Northern California, star news just learned. After going through the rigors of shooting “300,” you’d think this would be no skin off Gerard Butler‘s back…
But no…the 42-year-old Scottish-born Irish actor was held down by huge waves and dragged along large rocks while filming his latest movie about the life of American surfer, Jay Moriarty, a famed Northern California hang-ten type of guy. It looks like Gerard Butler ain’t no Matthew McConaughey, and Ireland’s leprechauns couldn’t stand the sea and surf long enough to protect their favorite son…
“[Butler] had that 100-yard stare that surfers get after a two-wave hold-down or near-death experience,”
ESPN reported of the two-wave hold down that took Butler‘s group by surprise and dragged him under.
The dazed actor was immediately rushed to the Stanford Medical Center after a stunning rescue by a safety patrolman, but was pronounced to have no serious injuries.
Whew.
And here we thought we wouldn’t get to see the film in October next year if Gerard Butler ended up sharing the fate of professional surfer Sion Milosky who drowned in the same area this March.
