LADY GAGA says her love song, “Marry The Night” is a story of her heart breaking, and if Mother Monster is anything, she’s a prodigious storyteller who’s woven the threads of her life into a tapestry of songs.
In fact, Gaga says the nearly 14-minute music video features her most personal song to date, and it was written when she was at the lowest point of heartbreak in her life…
Can you imagine Gaga suffering from an extreme case of unrequited love? Well, no, we neither.
But that heartbreak must have set her off pretty bad because the music video begins with her portrayal as a patient in a a mental ward where nurses wear haute couture. The video then flashes back to the start of the apparent insanity where she receives a devastating phone call while naked in bed.
“Well, I was naked in real life when it happened,”
The erstwhile Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta tells E! Online and celebrity gossip websites.
“That’s probably the most honest moment in that video of everything I’ve ever done. My directorial decision was for them to just f–king roll the cameras, because I couldn’t go in and out of the moment.”
And yes, well…she’s more or less naked for the rest of the music video (as well as pouring milk and Cheerios all over herself, breaking mirrors, crying over the feet of ballet dancers, dying her hair blue in the bathtub, hanging upside down from the window of a car, and….oh, wait…is that a sanitary pad taped to her breasts?), so we guess it’s Gaga‘s allegory of how bare and vulnerable she was at that point in her existence.
“It was one of the worst days of my life and it happened quite quickly, but in my mind, when I think back on that period of my life, it all happened very slow.”
The single represents the way she viewed that part of her life, and she wrote it so her Little Monsters could understand her pain.
Word of warning: the song doesn’t actually start until way into the 8:48 mark, but if you appreciate the sheer genius of Lady Gaga‘s authobiographical opus, then you’ll enjoy descending down the path of insanity and burning cars with her.
