Entertainment news today wants to know…what’s with LADY GAGA‘s new accent? While it may not be over-the-top Brit ala MADONNA during her horse-riding GUY RICHIE phase, we’ve been noticing how very careful and overly formal Mother Monster has been enunciating her vowels lately.
Whatever happened to Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta‘s New York born and bred Yankee accent?
We’re pretty sure the gradual shift in Gaga‘s articulation didn’t start with her 14-minute biographical opus, “Marry The Night,” where she pretty much prattles on in a refined and genteel turn of phrase for the first eight minutes of the video:
Because here she is again in a November video reading in her particularly affected elocution from a Terry Richardson foreword in a book of photographs of uh…herself (naturally):
Is the accent part of her evolution as a performance artist? Or like she says in “Marry The Night”:
“It’s sort of like my life is an unfinished painting, and as the artist of that painting, I must fill in the ugly holes and make it beautiful again. It’s not that I’ve been dishonest, it’s just that…I loathe reality.”
And for us, reality is Lady Gaga holding forth in full possession of her linguistic roots, such as from this early cameo in an MTV prank video, “Boiling Points”:
Or her this last known instance, circa 2009, when she was still proud as hell to be a New Yorker:
So what’s with the accent, Lady Gaga?
