CEE LO GREEN Stirs Up Controversy By Altering Religion-Related Lyrics Of JOHN LENNON’s “Imagine”
CEE LO GREEN stirred up controversy by altering the religion-related lyrics of JOHN LENNON’s “Imagine,” which he performed during the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square last Saturday.
In recent entertainment news, the “F*ck You” singer attracted some serious hate for his performance on the annual “NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly” at New York’s Times Square—and all because of three little words.
Cee Lo, who sang “Imagine” just a few minutes before midnight, changed the lyric “Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too” to “Nothing to kill or die for, And all religion’s true.”
Obviously, this angered fans of the late Lennon, as well as most atheists, and Cee Lo ended up getting a barrage of angry tweets from a lot of people:
“Look man, you’re nothing close to John’s intellect. You editing the song makes it a Pro Religion song and not a SECULAR song!” – Twitter user @SkyeNicolas
“how dare you change a song that represents someone’s beliefs to represent your own? that is so unbelievably disrespectful!” – Twitter user @Gunnerette
“If John were alive he would not apprec.you sh*tN on his music.U got a nerve a**wipe.U trying to get “super” famous huh dumba**!” -Twitter user @yipeekyayokay
But of course, Green received tweets of support as well:
“Nothing but love for @CeeLoGreen , because that is the message and his intentions LOVE!!!” – Comedian Jeff Dye
“John Lennon would condemn all the haters attacking you right now. Imagine is about Harmony and Love, which they clearly lack.” – Twitter user @FFXZeldagames
What about you? What can you say about Cee Lo changing the lyrics to “Imagine”?
