“American Idol” runner-up JESSICA SANCHEZ admits that one of the main reasons why she really wanted to win “Idol” was to break the competition show’s all-male winning streak, which has been going on for five years now.

Despite being dramatically saved from elimination by the judges last month, 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez still failed to beat out Phillip Phillips, who was crowned the winner of “American Idol” last week.

And though she’s happy for Phillip, the pint-sized singer admits that she was disappointed by the show’s outcome because she had been hoping to finally break the “American Idol” male winning streak that has been going on since David Cook’s win back in 2008.

Jessica tells Reality TV World:

“I think my only disappointment would be that. The only reason I would’ve really wanted to win was just to break that whole guy reign and just have a girl win it for once.”

She adds:

“It didn’t even have to be me. It could’ve been [Hollie Cavanagh] or [Skylar Laine], whatever.”

Nonetheless, Jessica believes that Phillip definitely deserved to win. She says:

“But I’m so proud of Phillip and I’m so happy it was him. He’s so talented.”
