JACKIE CHAN wants his fans to know that he’s finally done with action movies.
Jackie, one of the world’s most loved action stars, has finally waved the white flag and told entertainment news that he is quitting action movies. The Hong-Kong-born actor, who holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for “Most Stunts By A Living Actor,” now wants to venture into a more toned down roles—one that does not involve him doing any heavy stunts.
The “Rush Hour” actor said during an interview at the Cannes press conference for his latest film “Chinese Zodiac” last Friday:
“This will be my last action movie. I will ask my body how long I can go. I tell you, I am not young any more.”
Chan added as he laughed:
“I am really, really tired.”
But the comedy-action actor does not merely blame his age—he’s 58!—or the many action movies that he has made starting from when he was young, as he explained further:
“The world is too violent now. It’s a dilemma because I like action, but I don’t like the violence.”
So what does he want now? He revealed:
“I don’t just want to be an action star, I want to be a true actor. I want to be an Asian Robert De Niro. I want to get rid of my image. So, for the last ten years I’ve done other films like “The Karate Kid,” where I’d rather play an old man. I want the audience to know I’m not just about fighting or comedy, also I can act.”
At least he’s not retiring yet!
Will you be looking forward to Jackie Chan as he takes on more serious roles?
