SARAH HYLAND Recovering From Serious Disease, Gets “Second Chance At Life” Thanks To Dad’s Kidney Donation
Hollywood news has learned that “Modern Family” star SARAH HYLAND is currently recovering from a serious disease, and that she got a “second chance at life” thanks to her dad’s kidney donation.
The 21-year-old starlet, who rose to fame thanks to her role as Haley Dunphy in the Emmy-winning comedy series “Modern Family,” has had a lifelong battle with a serious disease known as kidney dysplasia—a condition wherein one of the kidneys (or even both, in extreme cases) is replaced by multiple cysts, which means she only has one functional kidney.
Thankfully, Sarah will be fine. Last month the actress underwent a kidney transplant to remove the faulty kidney and replace it with a healthy one—from her own father.
The actress recently opened up about the experience during an interview with Seventeen magazine, revealing that she has learned a lot of things from her illness. She says:
“You know that family is going to be there for you no matter what. My dad gave me a freakin’ kidney! But it’s also the families that you create outside of your family. And you really find out what kind of people you’re friends with. It was just amazing, and it really opened my eyes to see who’s there for me and who’s not.”
“There are people who came out of the woodwork, not because it was ‘oh hey, congratulations on your show winning an Emmy.’ No, it was ‘hey, I’m here for you.’”
One person who was definitely there for Sarah—aside from her dad, of course—was her boyfriend, Matt Prokop. She shares:
“He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself.”
The TV star continues:
“Any other 21-year-old guy would not be there, I guarantee it. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have him be there for me.”
And now that she’s on the mend, Sarah is nothing but thankful:
“I have a second chance at life – not a lot of people get that.”
